‘Fantastic’ mum marks her 100th birthday

- PAUL CARGILL

A“fantastic”mother of five celebrated her centenary with family and friends at Ochil Care Home in Perth late last month.

Betty McEwan got to see two of her sons and one of her daughters on her special birthday, albeit at a distance because of COVID-19 restrictions.

They said:“Mum is and has been a fantastic mother and friend to so many over the past hundred years, and it’s wonderful to be with her on this very special day to say just how proud she makes us feel.”

Betty grew up in Perth and attended Perth

Academy before going on to do many jobs such as being a secretary and helping to translate German during war times.

She married her husband John in 1940 and went onto have sons Michael, John and Alan and daughters Lisbeth and Barbara.

Betty also used to play piano in a small group called the D Mac Trio before moving to Ochil to start another new chapter of her life.

General manager Elizabeth Stewart commented:“Betty is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”
