Kind-hearted neighbours dig deep to make a difference

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

A Perth street has rallied together to donate Christmas gifts for vulnerable families.

The kind-hearted neighbours dug deep and bought a wide range of gifts and passed them on to Food Share to distribute.

Food Share organiser Liz Barrett - who has just been elected to the council - was overwhelmed by the generosity of residents in her ward.

The collection was organised by a resident on Clyde Place.

Her generous neighbours showed festive goodwill and came together to build an impressive collection of Christmas presents.

Newly elected Perth City South Lib Dem councillor Liz Barrett was delighted to collect the gifts on behalf of Food Share.

The South Perth Community Food Share was launched in July to help reduce food waste and support residents who might struggle to go into town for help or cheap food.

Cllr Barrett said: “We are overwhelmed by this generosity and kindness from Clyde Place and send warmest thanks to everyone.

“They are so thoughtful with many gifts suitable for teenage boys - and they’ve even put in wrapping paper too.

“This will make a huge difference to people in South Perth, and we’re aiming to have them available from next Saturday.

“We’re open 11am-1pm on Thursdays and Saturdays at Moncreiffe Community Centre in Glenlyon Road.”

She added: “I’d also like to thank all our Food Share volunteers, who have stepped up so we can run the South Perth Community Food Share over the festive period.

“We’ll be open from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, December 23 (instead of Christmas Eve) and on Thursday, December 31 and then open as usual from Thursday, January 7.

“Thanks as ever to Letham4All and the food bank for all the support that they provide to all the Food Shares in Perth.”
