Luncarty bosshadno complaints overloss

Robbie Holden admits he had no complaints about the result after Luncarty lost to Glenrothes on Saturday afternoon.

And now the Bleachers boss is challengin­g his players to use the disappoint­ment as motivation to kick-start another impressive run.

The Perthshire men sat top of the Conference B table prior to kick-off having netted victory in all six of their opening league fixtures.

But they went down 2-1 at Brownlands Park with the visitors grabbing the winner through Blair Smart as the final whistle approached.

Murray Carstairs had given Glenrothes the upper hand on 54 minutes before Sean Fergus levelled the game from the penalty spot.

It appeared set to end a point apiece but with 89 minutes on the clock Smart turned home to clinch the three points.

“Credit to Glenrothes, they came at us early, worked harder and looked like they wanted it more,” Holden said.

“We don’t have any complaints with the result.

“When we equalised we were in a good spell and we looked like we might go and get a winner. It was probably the only spell where we looked anywhere near ourselves.

“If I’m honest, if we had won the game I don’t think we would have done enough to deserve it. It was a disappoint­ing day but a reminder that there are quality teams in the league.”

He grew up playing football on the local pitches around Perth.

On Sunday, Liam Gordon captained St Johnstone to a point at Celtic Park.

The towering central defender’s journey from youth side Letham to firstteam regular has certainly been a special one.

And he admits it was a dream come true to proudly pull on the armband for a club he watched as a little boy.

Gordon (24) beamed: “When the gaffer told me I was captain I thought: ‘Did he just say that?’

“It’s a great honour and a dream for me to captain the club I have grown up supporting and the team I always wanted to play for.

“Before the game I didn’t really think about it too much because I had a job to do.
