Unique opportunities for an artist in Highland Perthshire
A package of opportunities are being offered by Birnam Arts to help develop the productivity of an aspiring Perthshire artist.
Birnam Arts has been busy crowdfunding and following the success of the campaign to help keep the doors to the Highland Perthshire art centre open, a new idea has been germinating.
Birnam Art has a four week ‘studio access residency’ beginning in February. The selected artist will get an artist fee of £500, a two-week solo exhibition, two night’s stay at local accommodation, curatorial and marketing support plus two kiln firings.
Artists from any discipline, background, ethnicity, ability and gender are invited to apply.
Applications must be submitted by 10am on Thursday, December 17 to kate@birnamarts.com
Kate Bell, arts development at Birnam explained:“It goes without saying that this year has been one of the most difficult years the arts have encountered.
“To balance this, there have been some excellent initiatives set up to support artists online.
“But offline, physically engaging opportunities have dwindled hugely. Exhibitions and residencies have been cancelled across the landscape.
“We had wanted to set up a studio access residency at Birnam Arts and felt that this was as good a time as any to do it. We could create this opportunity from scratch, allowing us to adapt to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions whilst still being able to support creative development.
“We hope this residency goes a small way towards supporting an artist to dedicate time and space to develop their practice.
“If all goes well, we hope to extend the residency to more artists in the future.”
Kate added that if anyone would like to support the future of this arts centre, they can still donate at www. crowdfunder.co.uk/ savebirnamarts
