Last-ditch bid to save Twa Tams

£15k Crowdfunder launch

A Perth pub has turned to the public for help in what has been described as a “last attempt to try and save” the popular venue.

The owners of The Twa Tams on Scott Street have launched a Crowdfunder campaign and are striving to raise £15,000 in donations so it can reopen again in 2021.

The live music entertainment facility, established since 1975, reopened at the start of July only to close again due to a huge decline in trade on October 31.

The facility was to reopen on November 13 but those plans were scrapped when the region was placed in tier three of COVID restrictions.

And now with the owners unable to rely on further government funding, it is hoped local punters can come to the rescue and keep the pub afloat until it is able to open its doors once more.

In a statement on The Twa Tams social media page, it read: “With things the way they are, this year has been mighty tough.

“In 2019 our new owners reinvigorated the local music scene whilst developing an awesome food and drinks offering, preserving the ethos of the community hub that we all cherish.

“The pub’s staff worked incredibly hard helping us attain Scottish Bar Of The Year.

“We started 2020 by having over 70 bands play throughout January.

“We were then nominated for Best Scottish Gastro Pub and then we had to close for lockdown.

“Sadly not only can we not open at the moment, we can’t play live music, serve alcohol inside, or make use of the festive season at our busiest period - which sustains us through to January.

“Running a pub like The Tams is an expensive endeavour and whilst we received grant money from Creative Scotland in October to keep us going until November, that money has now gone.

“To compound our issues, we don’t have access to any Bounce Back Loans or the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme.

“And so it comes to us making a last attempt to try and save our community pub.

“We are launching a Crowdfunding campaign to keep us going through the tough times.”

The Crowdfunder had raised just over £2000 in donations when the PA went for publication yesterday afternoon.

And as part of the campaign the pub is offering those who donate access to The Twa Tams Festive Festival - a live-streamed event with a variety of bands over multiple nights.

“Everyone who donates £15 or more gets access and anyone who donates £25 or more will also receive a free Twa Tams t-shirt,” the post added.

“Those who donate £100 or more will get live-stream access, two t-shirts, and two tickets to our exclusive reopening night, where you’ll be dined and taken care of until your heart is content.

“More details of our Festive Festival event are to follow over the next few days.

“There’s a variety of awesome music and you’ll be helping keep us out of the woods until we can reopen next year.

“We hope you can help us survive till 2021 where we’ll start over again.

“Thanks for all your continued support.”
