Rachel Todd led from the front to help guide St Johnstone WFC to their third consecutive win on Sunday afternoon.

Currently taking on the role of captain, she chipped in with two goals - the first a free-kick - to clinch three points against Queen’s Park.

Hannah Clark rounded off the scoring in the 82nd minute to send the Perth side home from Glasgow with a spring in their step.

Saints head coach Jason McCrindle admits it wasn’t the best performance on the eye, but the desire and hard work was there.

“It was a hard-fought win and we thought that wee bit of quality would win us the game,”he said.

“The three goals were quality and that was the difference between the sides. We weren’t great, I’ll be honest. But we had desire, hard work and commitment.“

Todd had opened the scoring shy of the half hour mark before adding the second with a powerful strike on 70 minutes.

McCrindle said: “Rachel has stepped up and is captaining the side. She has that responsibility and has taken it on really well.

“She is leading by example and I’m really pleased for her.

“She is performing to a high level, as is everyone. There is no standout because it’s a really hard-working team at the moment.”

There was a nice moment for youngster Leah Sidey, who came off the bench to make her SWPL debut.

“Leah is another one who has come through the conveyor belt from Jeanfield,”said McCrindle.

“She has been up training with us all season. She has been excellent and her attitude has been spot on.”
