False attack charge

- COURT REPORTER

A Perth man will stand trial at the Sheriff Court on December 23, charged with wasting police time by falsely claiming his partner had been attacked with a hammer.

Thirty-three-year-old Paul Lappin also faces further counts of threatening to kill police and sinking his teeth into a female officer’s body.

The accused, of Victoria Street, maintained his not guilty pleas to a total of five charges following his latest court appearance.

It is alleged that on June 22, 2020, at his home, he falsely told PCs Nathan Shields and

Gillian Robertson that his partner had been assaulted, temporarily depriving the public of their services while they investigated the false claim.

It is also claimed that he shouted and swore, acted in an aggressive manner, made abusive remarks towards them and their families, challenged them to fight and made the kill threats.

Further charges allege that he flailed his arms, struggled and tried to break free from the officers, bit PC Robertson and attempted to bite PC Shields on the body.

Lappin, who was represented by local lawyer Billy Somerville, had his bail continued.
