New trial date set for driver accused of smashing into van

- COURT REPORTER

A new trial date has been set for a man accused of driving dangerously on a Perth street and smashing into a van.

Sultan Falah Al Hajri, of Lapwing Drive, Muirton, also faces further charges of driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

He was to have faced trial at Perth

Sheriff Court on December 7 but that has now been delayed to June 7 next year because of legal aid issues.

It is alleged that on February 21, 2020, on Pitcullen Crescent, Al Hajri drove dangerously and at excessive speed and overtook three other vehicles within a 30mph restriction.

It is then claimed that on the approach to a pedestrian crossing, he failed to observe a van then waiting

to turn right - and collided with it.

Al Hajri is further said to have mounted the pavement and crashed into a hedge, damaging both vehicles.

Additional charges, also denied, allege that he drove while banned near Pedwarden Road, Perth, and had no insurance cover.

The accused had his bail continued meantime.
