Saints drop below required standard in Glasgow defeat

GLASGOW WOMEN ......................... 2 ST JOHNSTONE WFC ....................... 0

St Johnstone WFC head coach Jason McCrindle admitted his side got what they deserved on Sunday.

A final fixture west before Christmas had Saints hitting the road for a rearranged Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 test at GlasgowWomen.

Picking up three points would have been a lovely early gift for the Perth squad but it proved a disappointing afternoon.

Nicola Jameison had gone close with a header in the opening exchanges before Rachel Todd hit the woodwork on 25 minutes.

But second half goals from Kaitlyn Canavan and Abbi McDonald ensured it was the hosts who were in celebratory mode at full-time.

“Glasgow Women did all of the things that I was looking for our team to do,”McCrindle told the PA.

“They didn’t need to work hard for their goals. We were okay but didn’t play as well as we can and got what we deserved out of the game.

“When you are just okay in games, this is what you get absolutely nothing. We needed to reach the level of the past three games.

“After losing the goals there was a five-minute reaction but it wasn’t sustained for any length of time.”

Saints had won their previous three matches heading into this one and McCrindle was cautious about being overly-critical.

“We’re still a relatively young side,” he added. “It’s tough to maintain a level for every game, of course it’s going to be tough.

“In the last four games we’ve picked up nine points out of 12 so we can’t be too critical.”
