HISTORIC RELIC TO BE PLACED IN CITY HALL WE DID IT - STONEWILL COME HOME Perthshire public’s voice was heard

Balbeggie on Christmas Day so she could hand over some gifts and raise a few smiles.

Rachel’s mum had believed she would be able to enter the home to spend a little time with Shelley under a nationwide easing of restrictions on indoor visits on December 25.

But she has now been told by Balhousie Care Group no visits will be allowed under any circumstances due to the new strain of the coronavirus.

The Perthshire Advertiser said it was Perth’s destiny - and this week we were proved right.

The return of the Stone of Destiny to the region has been a long time coming - over seven centuries in fact - but that just made the announcement on

Wednesday that Perth had won the fight to house the relic all the sweeter.

Our It Is Our Destiny campaign urged Perth residents to make their voice heard in the public consultation on the future of the stone.

And you did not let us down with hundreds of individuals making the case for the artefact to come to Perth.

After a miserable year, the Stone of Destiny decision has brought some light to the region.

There is little doubt it will draw people to Perth and, consequently, the surrounding areas.

While we remain in a deadly battle against the coronavirus, there is now a chink of light with the vaccine and there is now also a ray of hope for the local economy.

We cannot wait until this vital part of Scotland’s history takes pride of place in a revamped Perth City Hall just a few miles from its ancestral home.
