Police appeal after reports of a woman in the Tay at Perth
Perth police officers have launched a public appeal for information following reports that a woman was spotted in the River Tay.
Eye witnesses say the individual was in the water near Commercial Street at around 9pm on Tuesday evening.
Scottish Fire and Rescue (SFRS), Police Scotland and the ambulance service rushed to the incident where boats were launched at around 10pm but there was no sign of any person.
At this time officers are reviewing
CCTV footage in the area and taking witness statements to ascertain if anyone did enter the water.
There are currently no ongoing searches of the River Tay.
A Tayside Police spokesperson said: “Officers in Perth are continuing with inquiries into a report that a woman was seen in the water near Commercial Street around 9pm on Tuesday, December 22.
“At this time officers are reviewing CCTV footage in the area and taking witness statements to ascertain if anyone did enter the water.
“There are currently no ongoing searches of the River Tay.”
During Tuesday’s search an a SFRS spokesperson revealed it received a report of two people in the water.
The said: “We got a call from the ambulance service at 9.25pm. There were reports of two people in the water.
“We’ve sent out two boat teams, one from Perth and one from the Kingsway in Dundee along with two appliances from Perth.”
