DJs go old-school for club night fundraiser

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

A Perth DJ trio will be taking club music lovers back in time to raise money for a local mental health charity.

Mark Stuart, Johnny Fraser and Gordon Lackie’s ‘ThrowBACK Festive Fundraiser’ virtual concert will be broadcast at 7pm on December 27 in aid of Andys Man Club (AMC) in Perth.

The tunes to be played by all three on the night will be recognisable to the ears of many who attended the once popular Ice Factory night club, where they performed sets throughout the 90s and 00s.

Organiser Mark has set up a GoFundMe page with a target of £500 and feels with the region now in level four of restrictions support for groups such as Andys Man Club can go a long way to help those feeling isolated and alone in the new year.

“We all worked at the Ice Factory and we have always been friends for years,” he said.

“We did a few things earlier in the year in terms of fundraising.

“We raised money for charities and thought one night we could do another live stream on Mixcloud.

“Throughout lockdown there were loads of them but they are few and far between now because less people are off.

“And there seems to be not a great deal of support in that field (mental health) at the moment in our opinions.

“AMC was a good charity to choose because I had some work done in my house by an electrician and he spoke about the club and how it helped him when he was in a bad place a few years ago.

“A lot of people over this year have had a lot of issues and have not had a place to turn.

“I think with lockdown just starting again it is going to be even worse.

“These guys are running a great service so that was the reason for us doing it.”

Mark, Johnny and Gordon were to host the virtual concert live on December 27 but, due to the rule changes, prerecorded their sets on Sunday which can be enjoyed by the public from 7pm on Sunday.

Mark says the three of them will have very different sets which can change from remixed modern music to 90s classics.

He added: “If everyone chips in a pound it is not a huge amount of money but fingers crossed we can make it.”
