Stone will boost region

The Stone of Destiny coming to Perth will be a boost for the whole region, according to Perthshire Chamber of Commerce.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that the relic would return to Perthshire and will take centre stage in a new museum at Perth City Hall.

The move means the stone will just be a few miles from its spiritual home at Scone Palace.

Perthshire Chamber of Commerce was one of several organisations including the PA - who made representation in a consultation exercise into the future of the stone last year.

And reacting to this week’s news, the chamber’s chief executive Vicki Unite said:“This is great news.

“A major tourist attraction with the Stone of Destiny as the key exhibit will be a real boost to the city and therefore the whole area.

“The plans to bring the Stone of Destiny’s story to life through technology helps showcase our area’s rich history and we should all benefit from increased visitor numbers.

“This is a fantastic result.”
