Car sharing scheme gets £700 from the common good fund
A group seeking to establish a new car sharing scheme in Kinross-shire has been granted a portion of the overall cost from the Kinross Common Good Fund.
Councillors agreed to grant Kinrossshire Move Greener £700 from the fund with the proviso the group must secure the rest of the £4280 it requires to buy a vehicle from other sources first.
A paper put before the Kinross Common Good Fund committee explained: “An application from Kinrossshire Move Greener has been received seeking funding for a 12 month pilot car sharing scheme in Kinross. The funding is for 50 per cent of the cost of a vehicle, including the depreciation value over the pilot period, maintenance, cleaning and insurance.
“The group is hoping to add to the fleet if this pilot proves successful and potentially add a bike share scheme as well.
“The group will monitor use of the car to help to assess the financial viability of an expanded project.
“The project will benefit approximately 600 people from the
Common Good area and 210 from outside.
“The scheme will provide environmental benefits by reducing the number of people using private vehicles.
“The project will run from January to December 2021.”
Kinross-shire councillor Mike Barnacle remarked before agreeing to the £700 grant: “We do have a community transport problem in Kinross-shire so anything that assists people with transport has to be a good thing.”
