Callum Davidson is confident his side can start finding the back of the net with more regularity.

The manager’s misfiring Saints drew a blank with Hamilton on Wednesday and are now eight league games without win.

A first fixture of 2021 now sees the ninth-placed Perth men travel to the Highlands for a crucial meet with second-from-bottom Ross County.

“The league has split into two at the moment and they’re all big games,” Davidson said. “This is another one.

“Like Hamilton, Ross County are fighting and scrapping.

“We have to make sure we perform as we did against Aberdeen and Hamilton, when we’ve been unlucky. If we do that, I’ll be happy.

“If we create as many chances again then I’m confident we’ll score.

“Strikers go on streaks of scoring – we saw that with Stevie May earlier in the season.”

Davidson admits Saints’ current league position is making it difficult to throw Guy Melamed into action.

The Israeli striker signed for the Perth club in October and spent time building up his fitness before being included in the squad.

But he has only made one start in the Scottish Premiership and numerous brief appearances from the bench.

Melamed was an unused substitute midweek and Davidson said:“It’s difficult.

“We’re not in a great position in the league to chuck players in who I don’t think will play a full game.

“I can’t get him bounce games to help him adapt to the pace of the game.

“He’s got qualities but it’s a difficult balance for me. It’s probably my fault for not throwing him in – there’s that trust issue.

“I thought Kano (Chris Kane) was excellent again and I trust him to do the other side of the game for me. In games like this, it’s very difficult.

“Yes, he has a future but where we are in the league makes it very hard to throw him in at the moment.”

Davidson felt the 0-0 draw with Hamilton at McDiarmid Park was a case of two points dropped.

“I think we had 28 shots with very few on target,”he said.“A lot were near misses but we should have tested the goalie more.

“I’d be more worried if the players weren’t getting in the positions to have chances but they are.”
