MSP says thanks for day centre provision

-

Staff at a day centre in Kinross were thanked for the amazing job they have been doing throughout the COVID-19 crisis to support older people.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Alex Rowley paid a visit to Kinross-shire Day Centre to meet staff and volunteers. He was so impressed, he even put forward a motion to thank them in the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Rowley previously said of the centre, which has around 100 elderly members:“The level of provision that this service provides is absolutely first-class.”

However, like many organisations across the country, the coronavirus pandemic has taken an impact on the normal day-to-day running of the centre.

The Labour MSP said:“The centre is normally a hive of activity.

But [since COVID-19] over 100 older members have been receiving meals delivered at home every day, daily bingo numbers, weekly quizzes, but most importantly, a person to speak to and a centre that is there to help at any time.

“The pandemic is having a huge impact on all of our daily lives, but it is amazing to see dedicated individuals still working hard and doing their best to help those in need.

“These frontline workers are just amazing and deserve our recognition.”

He added:“Community services such as this are the very heart of our communities and we must support them and remember the work they did when we get through the other side of the pandemic.”
