Committee ‘weakened’ by sad loss of councillor to COVID-19

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

A Perth and Kinross councillor has said a committee was “very much weakened” by the absence of its former convener.

Perth and Kinross Council was left shocked and saddened following the death of SNP councillor Henry Anderson.

The well-liked Bridge of Earn representative died of COVID-19 on December 27 aged 68.

On Tuesday, January 5, PKC’s local review body - a committee convened by

Cllr Anderson - met for the first time since his death.

Cllr Tom Gray began the meeting by paying tribute to his SNP colleague and friend.

The Strathallan councillor said: “Henry was a dedicated member of the council.”

Cllr Gray added: “It didn’t matter what he took on, he took it on with relish and great gusto. And the local review body was one such committee.

“Henry dedicated his life very much to the council and to his own community - a greatly missed person. And this committee is very much weakened by Henry’s lack of presence today.

“I would like to express our sorrow and our sympathies to his family and all who knew Henry.

“He was a lovely person. He really was.” Cllr Gray suggested Lib Dem councillor Willlie Wilson step in as convener with Conservative councillor Ian James seconding.

Cllr Wilson agreed but said these were “very sad circumstances.”
