Sheriff:‘Actions are despicable’

-

At his most recent court appearance in December, Singh’s actions were described as “despicable” by Sheriff Gillian Wade.

She told him:“Be in no doubt I take a very grim view of your behaviour.”

Singh admitted that between December 1, 2019, and June 1, 2020, he engaged in a course of abusive behaviour by repeatedly sending Danielle messages in which he called her derogatory names.

He was subject to a November 11, 2019, bail order from Glasgow Sheriff Court at the time.

He also admitted flouting that bail order by repeatedly communicating with her over the six-month period.

The court heard that Singh had been convicted of attacking and injuring the same woman in Glasgow last year while he believed she was pregnant. He narrowly escaped a jail term on that occasion and instead was given 300 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to take part in the two-year Caledonian Programme, designed to help men involved in domestic abuse.

Solicitor Pauline Cullerton told the court:“He’s accepted full responsibility and appears to show genuine remorse.

“He’s disgusted by his conduct.” She asked that sentence be deferred to“keep this hanging over him and ensure he continues to comply with the Caledonian Programme.”

Sheriff Wade continued the case until May 19 and called for an updated report on his progress on the Glasgow court order, detailing the hours of unpaid work completed.

But she told Singh:“Do not think for one minute I’m putting this aside.”

And she warned him to expect a “substantial sentence”.

He had his bail continued and he was told to stay out of further trouble meantime.

Singh was fined £1125 and ordered to pay the victim £1000 at the Perth court in November after he admitted engaging in a separate course of abusive conduct towards the same woman.

In addition, a three-year Non-Harassment Order was imposed after the court heard he made her kneel on the floor and beg for forgiveness.

Describing that incident, depute fiscal Malcolm Sweeney told the court:“On that occasion, she was made to sit on the floor, on her knees, and to beg the accused to forgive her - and to forgive her for being such a slut.”
