A motorist, caught driving in Perth with an expired provisional licence and no insurance - was disqualified for six months at the Justice of the Peace Court this week.

Twenty-seven-year-oldThomas Brown was also fined £200 on a further charge of failing to appear for an earlier court hearing.

The accused, of Greenbank Road, Glenfarg, admitted that on May 16, 2019, on St Leonard’s Bridge, Perth, he did not have the necessary driving documents.

He was subject to a March 23, 2017, bail order from Perth Sheriff Court at the time.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a third charge of having insufficient tread on his front nearside wheel at the time.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie told the court that police saw the accused driving a car about 5.45pm on a Thursday evening.

“A computer check performed on the vehicle identified that there was no insurance in place.

“Further checks also revealed that the accused wasn’t a valid licence holder either,”she added.

Sheriff Neil Bowie said that the accused’s record suggested he had been banned in the past.

“I’m minded to impose a further disqualification.”

He also fined Brown £200 for failing to turn up earlier but solicitor David Holmes asked for no time to pay. struggling in lockdown are being encouraged to seek support
