Hugh Grierson Organic Meat has been voted Best Scottish Butcher in awards run by Slow Food UK.

Slow Food is a worldwide campaigning movement devoted to producing and eating food ingredients which are carefully grown, sustainable and fairly priced.

There is a Tayside and Fife branch of the Scottish arm of the international organisation.

The awards happen annually and reward the efforts of small-scale artisan food producers.

Hugh and Sascha Grierson started their farming business over 20 years ago and first went organic in 2002.

Their farm sites - Newmiln Farm and Balgowan - in the Strathearn valley are five miles outside of Perth.

The meat side of the Grierson Organic business offer organic Aberdeen Angus beef, rare breed outdoor-reared pork, lamb and mutton, slow growing chicken and eggs.

Sascha Grierson explained that the awards were not something producers entered for, but customers who are members of Slow Food Scotland nominated then.

“We are delighted and humbled that we were voted for best Scottish Butcher,”she said.

“Thanks to everyone who has been shopping with us in 2020.

“The time for Slow Food has come. We are all more aware than ever of our collective impact.

“We feel lucky that we have been able to stay open and proud to serve our local community.‘‘
