Brakes won’t be put on parking charges
Suspension of fees‘not practical’
Perth and Kinross Council has rebuffed calls to suspend parking fees across the region while the country is in lockdown - although it may revisit the idea at a later date.
Perth and North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart had urged the local authority to reimplement a similar system set up during the first lockdown in order to help local businesses and key workers.
His calls were echoed in Fife and Dundee, who both have since agreed to scrap their charges temporarily.
Dundee City Council suspended charges from Boxing Day for three weeks and Fife Council’s suspension of its charges came into effect on January 11 and will continue for the foreseeable future.
However, the Perth authority has decided not to follow as it was not deemed “practical for a three-week period”.
Mr Wishart believes it would have greatly aided businesses that are still open in Perth and Kinross.
“I was pleased to hear that councillors in Dundee and Fife have introduced measures to suspend parking charges to help key workers and those businesses which are still open during this difficult time”, he
