Region pulled together in tough times

-

Sometimes the simple things in life are taken for granted.

Heading down the local bowling green for a game with pals, dusting off the golf clubs and teeing-up at your course of choice or meeting up with team-mates for the weekly training session.

Simply being part of something means so much to so many.

The camaraderie, laughter and togetherness holds great significance to young and old. The importance of sport is great and 2020, perhaps more than any other year, hit home with that message.

It was quite hard to fully digest news in March that sport across the country was being shut down due to the developing danger of the coronavirus pandemic.

There is no denying that such a move was necessary. But seeing tennis courts empty, swimming pools closed and football pitches free of action was surreal.

Uncertainty surrounded when exactly life would return to normality but the sporting landscape was most definitely changing for the foreseeable future. It did and it has.

Yet the people of Perth and Kinross showed their resilience, determination and creativity to ensure sport was not left behind.

Fundraising efforts were quickly brought into play to alleviate the economic fears of the temporary closures. Zoom was suddenly at the top of everyone’s vocab list.

Virtual events and online fitness sessions became the norm.

While not together in person, the community was strong in spirit.

And when normality does return, I’m sure we will all appreciate sport that little bit more.
