Well-rounded education beyond the classroom

-

Set among 54 acres of stunning Perthshire countryside just outside Bridge of Earn, Kilgraston has celebrated incredible success over the past year, despite the pandemic.

In 2020, 100 per cent of pupils were accepted into their first choice university and headmistress

Dorothy MacGinty is particularly proud of the school’s record when it comes to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.

She said: “We are always very strong in sciences – we generally have between 50 per cent and 60 per cent of our girls going onto STEM undergraduate courses. It is one of the great things about a girl’s school; we don’t have any of these gender biased subjects.

“We are also seeing an increasing number of girls applying for computing sciences which is great because there is a real dearth of women in that field and recently we have seen more girls apply to study business at universities along with economics and law.”

Kilgraston, which celebrated its 90th anniversary last year, is open to girls aged from five to 18, and boys from ages five to 12.

The school’s founding traditions, as part of the Sacred Heart Network, reinforces its values, as does its Scottish education heritage. Trust, respect, integrity and responsibility lie at the heart of Kilgraston’s community and underpin the academic achievements of each of the school’s students. Each pupil is encouraged to grow, learn and mature in an atmosphere of freedom and opportunity.

Mrs MacGinty added: “I want the girls to be forward thinking while considering the whole planet and their role as global citizens and the impact that every individual can have.”
