Plea for £10 million plan to not impact on ‘ambience’ of area
A Perth and Kinross councillor has called for a £10 million expansion of a Perthshire hotel not to affect the “ambience” of the area.
Murrayshall Country House Hotel is preparing an application for a multimillion development.
The plans include a residential development, hotel extension, staff accommodation units, spa, lodges, glamping pod, indoor games area and an outdoor pursuits area.
Fergus Purdie Architects submitted a pre-application notice to Perth and Kinross Council. It was put before PKC’s planning and development management committee on Wednesday (January 13).
Independent councillor Michael Barnacle said the Scone hotel was “a really important asset for Perth” and was in a “tremendous location.”
He stressed it was “very important” the plans respected the “ambience of the site.”
Lib Dem councillor Willie Wilson said there were “already issues with access about the narrow roads around
Murrayshall.” He added: “And in Scone itself Bonhard Road, which is a private road, has a degree of traffic.”
Cllr Wilson called for clarification about the provision for campervans.
Cllr Wilson also called for active travel provision saying there was a “lot” of horseriding, cycling and walking in the area but no footpaths.
Conservative councillor Callum Purves was keen that a habitat survey be carried out.
It is expected that the expansion, if it goes ahead, has the potential to create 250 jobs.
