Man arrested on drug charges after city fire

A man has been arrested after a cannabis cultivatio­n was allegedly found during follow-up enquiries into a blaze at a Perth takeaway.

Officers reported the discovery having returned to the scene the day after a fire broke out at the Elrasheed D’Lite kebab shop on Sunday evening.

Eleven people across seven households were forced from their homes, with one sent into temporary accommodat­ion after“significan­t”damage was inflicted on their property.

Six fire appliances attended the scene and managed to douse the flames.

It has been confirmed the fire was not started deliberate­ly.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said:“Following a fire in Scott Street, Perth, on Sunday, January 10,2021, officers executed a drugs warrant on Monday, January 11, 2021, at a neighbouri­ng property and a 32-year-man has been arrested in connection with drugs offences. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
