Artist’s work is available to view in online exhibition

- MELANIE BONN

Beautiful paintings and photographs by renowned Scottish artist Philip Braham of his Perthshire home are available as an online exhibition this January.

‘Closer to Home’is a new exhibition hung at The Scottish Gallery in Dundas Street, Edinburgh, and being shown online.

His work attempts to examine the natural environment.

Philip, who lives in Strathearn and is a graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and

Design, commented:“I have titled this exhibition of paintings and photographs Closer to Home because I came to understand that the idea of ‘home’need not be rooted in the impressions imprinted during childhood, but that the longingto-return might instead be for a destination that still lies ahead: a horizon that has now come into view.

“A camera provides the best excuse for a walk, and walking is the best way to learn about a place.

“Thus, I began to record the cyclical seasons of the Perthshire landscape like a wide-eyed interloper filled with a newly rekindled sense of wonder and joy.”

Some images also hold narrative meanings, reflecting on the suicide of a close friend in 2019. ‘Black Crow by a Stony Path’shows a harvested field with its dried and broken stalks,

Another oil painting,‘Endless Path’alludes to the path of life, but the endlessness refers to those that came before us and to those who will follow into the future.

The solo show will be on until January 30.
