Thankyouforsupport

-

I am a Blairgowrie Soroptimist who is so proud to live in this town and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the 16 Days of Activism Against GenderBased Violence campaign last year.

November 25 to December 10 was the United Nations’ (UN) annual international campaign ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’ and, in 2020, Blairgowrie took part, raising awareness about stopping all forms of violence against women and girls.

With Perth and Kinross Council’s approval, orange ribbons donated by Jillian Page from Something Special Flowers in Blairgowrie, were attached to the Wellmeadow railings by local volunteers, including Councillor Caroline Shiers and her daughter Martha, generating much discussion about the topic of violence.

In addition to thanking Jillian, Caroline, Martha and the orange ribbon hangers – orange being the colour for this campaign – I would like to thank Johnathon Menzies and Clare Damodaran of [the PA’s sister paper] Blairgowrie Advertiser, as well as Steve Johnson, for their support in so many ways, including providing local publicity.

I would also like to thank the owners and staff of the following shops for decorating their windows with an orange theme and displaying ‘Stop Violence Against Women’ posters: Adventure into Books; Nest Creative Spaces; Coupar’s Electricals; the

Hair Lounge; the Wee Coffee Shop; Blythswood Care; Booklore; Apso Takeaway; the Card Gallery, Mitchell’s Newsagent; the Cateran Café; Goodfellow and Stephen’s Bakery; SemiChem; Piob Mhor Scotland; Sarah Cave Silversmith; Nickel and Dime;

Doig’s; Enable; No 62; All Things Fair; Diva; Little Rascals; Something Special Flowers; the Dome; Cunningham’s Carpets; Top Style hairdresser;Thrifty One in Alyth.

Thank you one and all and all the very best for 2021. Hopefully, in

November and December this year, we can once again raise awareness about the increasing issue of violence against women and girls.
