Listeners are big help
NHSTayside’s Community Listening Service says it delivered 1000 hours of support to people across the region last year.
The service provides members of the public with 50-minute appointments with trained listeners who give people the space to talk about their problems while drawing their attention to other forms of support available and additional resources.
The listeners are volunteers who give up their time to help people who can be experiencing a range of issues including bereavement, anxiety and relationship difficulties. Over 80 per cent of people who used the service said they were likely to recommend it to friends and family.
The service was originally launched with face-to-face sessions, however, due to COVID-19 listeners have had to start arranging appointments over the phone.
Community Listening Service coordinator Rebecca Adams remarked:“Our Community Listening Service gives people the chance to be open and honest about what is on their mind.
“The person being supported has control over the subject matter and flow of the appointment with the listener there to support them.”
