Hampden winleaves Davidson smiling

-

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson could not hide his smile in the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s semifinal win.

The Perth boss got it spot on at the national stadium.

While the start was a touch iffy, Saints stormed back into the game and had fans reaching for the superlatives in the second half.

Davidson said: “The first 30 minutes we didn’t play very well and rode our luck a little bit.

“I couldn’t believe we were 1-0 up, to be honest. It just shows you that football is a funny game.

“When we got the goal we started to settle down and second half we were excellent.

“When we got the ball moving, I thought Craig Conway and David Wotherspoon were excellent either side of Chris Kane.

“I’m delighted for the players, backroom staff, people upstairs and the people of Perth. It’s great to give them something to cheer about.

“It’s a great achievement for the club. For me, it means a lot but I just want to go and win it. We’ve given ourselves a chance.”

Skipper Jason Kerr climbed high above Hibs defender Ryan Porteous to nod in the opener. What a moment.

“I got a good jump on him and I saw it all the way. I was due a goal,” Kerr laughed.

“We rode our luck in the first half because Hibs were the better team by far and created a lot of chances.

“But we scored at the right time and went on to turn in an outstanding performance to get ourselves through.

“We all knew how important this game was and that’s why we’re buzzing about our performance.

“We’ve fancied ourselves all season. Hopefully we can get a good performance in the final as well.”
