Fresh from the buzz of advancing to the final of the Betfred Cup, St Johnstone yesterday added further firepower to their ranks.

Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has arrived on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old, a Scotland youth international, has been familiarising himself with his new team-mates at McDiarmid Park.

He enjoyed a promising spell with the Ibrox club in 2018 and even scored in a Europa League away tie against Spartak Moscow.

But the attacker, who boasts blistering pace, was farmed out on loan to Hibernian for more experience.

A product of the Norwich youth academy, he has more recently spent time on loan at English League Two side Bradford City.

All going well, Middleton could be available for Saints’ Scottish Premiership home fixture against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

The Perth club is buzzing after Saturday’s 3-0 Betfred Cup semi-final win over Hibernian but attention has turned back to the league.

Saints, now on a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions, are keen to keep the feel-good factor flowing strong.

Points are still needed to pull away from the bottom of the table, with current basement side Hamilton only four points back.

Aberdeen head into tomorrow evening’s fixture following a 2-0 win against Motherwell.

Defender Liam Gordon is eyeing another clean sheet to provide the perfect platform for victory.

“We should’ve had a result up at Pittodrie if it wasn’t for a ridiculous refereeing decision,”Gordon recalled of the 2-1 Boxing Day loss.

“In our dressing room, we’re strong characters. The win against Hibs will give us some momentum going into the Aberdeen game.”
