Iconic pig sign back at shop

-

It seems pigs might be flying in Blairgowrie once again as a popular sign is re-instated in the town.

Various incarnations of a pig sign have flown above award-winning Perth Street butchers H W Irvine – which celebrates 100 years in business in Blairgowrie next year – for decades.

Butcher John Morrison said“The pig sign outside the shop has been a long tradition at H W Irvine.

“The last sign was up for around 12 years before it eventually rotted away a few years ago.

“We found the original sign in the loft so this new sign is the third incarnation of the iconic symbol.

“One of our customers and a neighbour of the shop, Val Michalak is a very talented joiner and he very kindly offered to make us the new sign.

“It took him about two weeks to make it, and he did everything - cutting the wood, the carving, and painting it.

“It looks fantastic and we are very grateful to Val for doing it for us.

“And hopefully our customers and local residents in the town are just as delighted as we are to see it back.”
