The Scottish Government has asked for comments on its updated Climate Change Plan.

Transform Scotland has responded by pointing out that the plan is not fit to tackle the climate emergency and has called for a moratorium on road building.

We, in the Perth and Kinross Green Party, agree with Transform Scotland.

Perth and Kinross Council is also consulting the public on its plans to tackle climate change (https://www. pkc.gov.uk/article/21853/ClimateChange-Engagement).

And yet PKC is planning to spend £78 million, which it can ill afford, on the Cross Tay Link Road (CTLR), a road which will increase car use and therefore the area’s carbon footprint.

The Scottish Government, despite its fine words on climate change, has pledged £40m towards CTLR.

Why are the Scottish Government and PKC paying lip service to tackling climate change, while continuing to build roads?

Study after study has shown that building roads increases traffic.
