When St Johnstone historians get round to penning the next instalment of their club book, this game will not be featuring.

Sometimes memories of certain matches are best swept under the carpet to leave space for greater and more exciting occasions.

It was monotonous viewing at McDiarmid Park and, pretty much from the first whistle, seemed destined to end in a stalemate.

But in danger of sounding like the prophet of doom, there were positives that could be plucked from the 90 minutes.

The Perth rearguard turned in another solid performanc­e and that is now three clean sheets on the spin. That is certainly welcome.

The point also represente­d a sixth consecutiv­e game without defeat and Saints are yet to lose in the month of January.

Wing-back Scott Tanser, who revealed there is no update on his contract situation, was clearly pleased with the defensive performanc­e.

“It’s been good to have Jason (Kerr) back,” he said. “In the backline you need that leader and the captain of the team.

“As a team we defended really well on Wednesday. We limited them mainly to setpieces and they didn’t get many shots away.
