Melamed sparks the delightful second half comeback

Saints show belief and desire to win at Rugby Park

KILMARNOCK ................................ 2 ST JOHNSTONE .............................. 3 Matthew Gallagher

Guy Melamed was beaming with joy when he wandered over for his post-match interview with this very newspaper.

He had just played a starring role in launching the finest of recovery missions on a late January afternoon in Ayrshire.

St Johnstone trailed by two at the interval - unfairly it must be added following goals from Chris Burke and Aaron Tshibola.

But the visiting dressing room remained a location of positivity. Melamed certainly believed that a Perth revival was possible.

“We always believed in ourselves, even at half-time,” Melamed told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“We talked in the dressing room that we could do it. We felt pretty good in the first half and were a bit unlucky.

“We needed to keep pushing and playing how we were.”

It was a plan that paid off and, when Melamed finished from close range on 52 minutes, the comeback was well and truly on.

Saints, by this point, had Kilmarnock on the ropes and were quite intent on delivering a knockout blow before the full-time whistle
