Gilmour buzzing tosignfor theSaints

St Johnstone yesterday signed former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Gilmour.

The 21-year-old, most recently of Norwich City, has penned a deal until the end of the season.

He impressed manager Callum Davidson after a spell training with the Perth club and was pleased to get his immediate future sorted.

Gilmour said: “I’m obviously delighted to get it done. It’s been a long time coming.

“It’s been a tough few months for me but I’m excited to get going now.

“I’ll keep working hard and doing as much as I can off and on the pitch. Hopefully I can help the team going forward.”

Davidson, who was not completely ruling out sending striker Callum Hendry on loan when speaking yesterday, was thrilled to get Gilmour.

“He is one who will be a good addition,” Davidson said. “A young player with big talent and hopefully we can get the best out of him.”

Securing the services of Perth stalwart David Wotherspoon on a fresh two-year contract was also pleasing for Davidson.

“It is great,” said Davidson, who had no update on Scott Tanser’s contract. “It is one that has been going on for a wee while.

“We have been working pretty hard over the last few months to get the deal done.

“I think David has been one of our best players this season. He has adapted to the position that he’s played in.

“He understands the game really well and I think when you watch him play he knows exactly what he is doing.

“He has added goals to his game as well so hopefully he can add a few more and finish off with his best tally.”

Reflecting back to the weekend’s stunning 3-2 comeback victory against Kilmarnock, Davidson said: “It was really enjoyable.

“And a huge one regarding the season. It gives the players confidence that, no matter what is happening in a game, they can stay in it and can get a result.”

Saints play Rangers at Ibrox tomorrow evening.
