Festival still hopes to rock up in summer

Organisers to give it‘best shot’

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

The organisers of a music festival in Perth have vowed to give it their“best shot”to host the event in 2021.

Party in the Park is scheduled to take place at the South Inch on June 26 and 27.

The first event had originally been scheduled for last year but had to be scrapped because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speculation about summer music festivals has increased in the last few weeks after Glastonbury said it was cancelling its 2021 event.

But those behind Party in the Park say they will wait as long as possible to make a decision.

A spokesperson said: “A year ago, we were busy planning and getting ready to announce who was coming to party with us in the summer.

“An awful lot has changed in the last 12 months but we are still here and we are still planning.

“While we were disappointed at the news of Glastonbury cancelling, it was to be expected given the months of preparation required to accommodate quarter of a million people.

“We are fortunate that we do not need to make any early decision and have been advised that both the UK and Scottish governments will be in a better position to advise on summer festivals by late March and into April when the data on the vaccine roll-out starts to come in.

“So for just now, our message remains the same – follow the guidelines, stay safe, look after each other and we will see you in the summer.

“Our commitment to you remains the same.

“We are determined to give PATP its best shot for 2021 and if it is not to be, you can roll your tickets over again (at 2020 prices) or request a refund.

“When it is safe do so, we will have the biggest party ever.”

The Charlatans, Embrace, The Kaiser Chiefs and Ash are among the bands scheduled to take to the stage if the festival goes ahead.
