Hoisted into the starting line-up, experienced operator Bryson had three strong efforts across the game and the latter forced a wonderful stop from Allan McGregor.

At that point Saints were battling remarkably hard to level the midweek fixture after Ianis Hagi had nudged Rangers ahead with a sweet low strike early in the second half.

“Allan McGregor made a good few saves,” Bryson said. “I got a nosebleed a few times and the first one I should do a wee bit better.

“Everybody was saying they had seen the third chance back with my left foot and that it was an excellent save.

“He has done that his whole career and it was unfortunate for us.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t take anything from the game. It’s obviously tough when you come to Ibrox.

“Rangers are flying this season and make it difficult for you. We stayed in the game but gave away a sloppy goal.
