Vaccine pledge as snow set to bring disruption

Rescheduling for missed jags

- MELANIE BONN

As residents in Perth and Kinross prepare for heavy snow, NHSTayside has promised to keep people up to date with any cancellations for vaccine clinics.

Advising against people taking risks to come out for their appointment, NHS Tayside has said not to worry if patients have to cancel their appointments as they will have their jag rescheduled.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow from 3am to 9pm on Tuesday, February 9, with a yellow warning also in force into late on Wednesday night.

The amber warning covers from Dunkeld down to the Stirlingshire border, and from Kinross-shire to beyond Crieff.

As well as travel delays on roads being “likely”, some vehicles and passengers could get stranded.

The Met Office warned: “Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely.”

In an earlier yellow warning covering a wider area, the weather organisation said people risked injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and a risk of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Responding to this worrying outlook, NHS Tayside issued a message to the public yesterday asking for those expecting be called up for their coronavirus jag to remain alert to changes.

A spokesperson said: “If we need to cancel any of our clinics, we will share this information through our website: www. nhstayside.scot.nhs.uk, our social media channels and through the local press.

“So please keep an eye out before travelling to a clinic.

“Please only travel to receive your vaccine if it is safe to do so.

“If you are unable to attend due to adverse weather conditions please do not worry as your vaccine will be rescheduled.

“If you have an appointment at one of the community vaccine centres you don’t need to do anything, you will be contacted to rearrange.

“If you have an appointment to get vaccinated at your GP surgery please call your GP during office hours to reschedule.”

As the cold continues, with snowfall the primary hazard and temperatures set to remain freezing until Thursday morning, the Met Office warned there is “a good chance that some rural communities could get cut off. Power cuts are likely and other services such as mobile phone coverage may be affected.”
