Challenged police and spat at officer

-

A Perth man who spat on a police constable and hurled homophobic comments at other officers has subsequently suffered a stroke.

Forty-three-yearold Colin Swan failed to appear for sentence on three charges at Perth Sheriff Court this week.

His lawyer Linda Clark said he had suffered a stroke last summer and she understood he was shielding at present and staying with his mother.

Swan, previously of Union Lane, admitted acting in an aggressive manner and shouting and swearing at police in Union Lane on June 25, 2020.

He also challenged police to fight and uttered homophobic remarks.

He also pled guilty to a second charge of spitting on PC Connor Lees’body.

A third count involved him wilfully or recklessly throwing paint over a white Vauxhall Insignia sports tourer, damaging it.

The court was told that the accused’s new address is Craigie

Road.

Sheriff Gillian Wade noted that the accused had previously failed to attend for a background report.

She deferred sentence until March 24 to enable that report to be carried out over the phone.

She also wants a soul and conscience certificate from his doctor indicating why he did not attend for the background report and an update on his current medical condition.

Swan’s bail was continued meantime.
