GAMES REVIEWS Have smashing time with the AllStars

- Destruction AllStars

PS5

This car-smashing game was meant to be one of the exclusive launch titles for the PlayStation 5 last November.

But the developers pulled it fairly late on to give it a little bit more polish.

And the wait was well worth it, with Sony able to crow about yet another great Playstation-only title for the console.

This multiplayer-focused game reminds us of another PS Plus subscription freebie from a few years back — Rocket League.

That one saw you scoring goals with a giant ball in a football-style arena while driving a car.

This one is similar in that you are facing off against online rivals in different cars in an enclosed circuit.

But here you use your motors as weapons and smash them up against the other adrenalin-filled players.

It’s frantic and you will find yourself running and hopping in and out of vehicles, ramming them at speed into other cars and then doing it all again to rack up points.

British developer Lucid Games has done a great job here pitting breakneck racing speed alongside wanton destruction in clever arenas. It’s addictive, great fun and all about people playing online together. And it feels original, even if many of the individual elements are borrowed.

If you have PS Plus, download it for free at some point over the next two months before it becomes paid-for. A brilliant new addition to the PS5 roster.
