Unique exhibition is showcasing students’ art
A new‘COVID-compliant’ college art exhibition launched this week.
Perth College UHI students from the HND Contemporary Art Practice course have put on a unique exhibition to showcase their creative talents.
Each person taking part was asked to display their work at home or in their garden, showing how they got on to an audience on Instagram.
It launched on Wednesday, February 10.
The HND Contemporary Art Practice students were asked to hold their exclusive‘one-person’ exhibition in their home, garden, or somewhere safe, invite along their household if safe and to document the process.
Student Anne Marie McCloskey explained:“I’ve really missed sharing art in the studio with the class, as work is much better understood and appreciated in person. However, due to COVID-19, we have all had to adapt to how we share our creativity to make the online experience an inspiring and collaborative one.”
Simon Reekie, programme leader for Art and Contemporary Practices, said: “This group of art students are turning their hands to developing their own art practice and styles.
“It’s wonderful to see the creative spirit emerging from the students despite the current situation we find ourselves in.
“Watching the students develop a community of creative learners with compassionate and passionate support to each other through these difficult times has filled me with hope for the future.
“It really demonstrates the power and impact that art making in a supportive environment can have on mental health.”
