More snow... but here’s another one to improve your chipping

-

It looks like there will be‘snow’ golf again this weekend.

And therefore, it’s time for another home practice exercise to keep you going.

Following on from last week, I want to show you another exercise to help with your chipping and one that will really help with your ball striking.

Firstly, place a spare club on the floor, perpendicular to the direction of play and about eight inches behind the ball. Your feet should be quite close together and your weight favouring your front foot about 60:40 (as seen in picture one).

Now make your swing, rocking your shoulders back and through ensuring that your weight remains on your front foot for the entire movement.

When done correctly, you will not make any contact with the club shaft and you will strike crisply down on the back of the ball (as seen in pictures two and three).

If you try to“scoop”the ball into the air, then your swing arc will bottom out too early and your club head will strike the club shaft.

It may take a bit of practice to build confidence and master this movement completely.

But when you do, you’ll never look back.
