Perth boxer Luke Bibby is looking forward to the opportunities that are set to come his way.

The 20-year-old’s hard work and dedication has been paying off and he has now been called up to Boxing Scotland’s elite group.

That will open the door to top-quality training at the high-performance centre in Glasgow, as well as the chance to compete internationally.

Bibby, a Perth Railway Boxing Club member, said the jump up in class is a “big deal” for him and a very proud moment.

“I’d like to thank Boxing Scotland for giving me the chance,” said Bibby, who is an apprentice plumber.

“I’ve been working hard over the last two years to get moved up. I’m really happy and it’s going to give me a lot more opportunities to go abroad and represent my country.

“I’m going to be training through in Glasgow three times a week. It will be topclass coaching every week and that will only benefit me.

“All of the top amateurs are in the squad so it will be top sparring and top training with the coaches. I can’t ask for any more.

“I didn’t see this happening with my boxing. I knew I was up there but you just need to push and show your discipline and dedication.”

Last year Bibby enjoyed training camps in St Petersburg in Russia and in Lithuania. Both proved valuable for his development.

“I’ve been to Lithuania and Russia at top-class training camps with some of the best boxers on the planet,” he explained.

“I feel like I’ve come on leaps and bounds. It was my first time going abroad with it and it was a totally different experience. Brilliant.

“In Russia, there were some of the best amateurs in the world. Training with them, sparring with them, living their life. It opens your eyes.
