Sentenced delayed on wife attack

-

A father of 12 who attacked his wife - two days after telling her he was leaving her - will be sentenced at Perth Sheriff Court on March 3.

Fifty-five-year-old Stephen Petrie, of Emma Street, Blairgowrie, was to have discovered his fate last week.

But solicitor Kevin Lancaster said he had received a call indicating that his client had lost his car keys after falling in the snow.

In the event, a background report on the accused had not been finalised and Sheriff Neil Bowie deferred sentence until next month.

The court heard that Petrie had returned to the family home, despite telling his wife he was leaving.

But there was no happy reunion - and he flew into a rage and ended up attacking her.

His partner of more than 20 years, she was slapped on the face and landed on the floor.

He admitted assaulting her by seizing her by the body and slapping her in their home in Burrelton on January 14, 2020.

He also breached a January 15, 2020, bail order, banning him from contacting his wife in any way.

Bail conditions, relaxed following an earlier court appearance, were continued meantime.

They allow him to attend at their home in Burrelton but only by prior arrangement and agreement with his wife.
