BETFRED CUP FINAL

Players featurein podcasts

-

Hospital Radio Perth have produced several podcasts in the lead-up to Sunday’s League Cup Final between St Johnstone and Livingston.

The special programmes will feature recorded interviews with players who were involved in Saints two previous League Cup finals in 1969 and 1998.

Station chairman John Watson said:“About five years ago we began broadcasting a weekly hour of Saints and Scottish football chat. It was fans discussing and arguing about football – the sort of thing you’ll hear in any pub or club. It became so popular we began to get emails asking for us to put them onto podcasts.

“When we mentioned that there were costs involved in that, fans came forward and paid the podcast fees. That was 180 hour-long episodes ago – and every year since, the fees have been paid by listeners.”

Although John was already a regular follower of the Willie Ormond managed Saints team back in 1969 he could not get to the cup final against a Celtic team that consisted of most of the Lisbon Lions.

Peter Hay added:“More fans will recall the 1998 final when Saints faced Rangers at Parkhead. Rangers won 2-1, but Nick Dasovic’s goal for Saints was one to savour.

“It is a real shame that fans can’t get along to Hampden for this game, these sort of events come along all too infrequently for Saints – or indeed Livingston fans. So we decided that we’d mark the event with a series of interviews with players who were involved in these earlier games.”

John adds:“Hopefully next week’s podcast will feature wall to wall celebrations.”
