Don’t resist it, twist it...

-

Do you ever feel like your golf swing is restricted and that you’re struggling to make a full turn and generate power?

In the recent past, there has been much emphasis put on why you must resist with the lower body to generate power on your backswing. This has led to a generation of golfers struggling to make a complete turn, as they don’t have the range of movement to fully rotate with this resistance (pic 3).

Have you ever watched a long drive competitor swing a golf club?

If you have, then you will understand that to hit the golf ball a long way requires a big turn and unless you are extremely flexible, you are going to need a pretty big hip rotation to get your shoulders fully turned on the backswing.

From address position (pic 1), you should concentrate on the feeling of twisting your body, allowing your right hip and shoulder to turn behind your body. By doing so, you will make a more central rotation and will be able to make a more complete turn on your backswing (pic 2).

Your right leg will straighten a bit and your left heel may possibly lift and that is fine.

With a free flowing rotation, you will soon be impressing your friends with some extra yards on your drives.
