Drunken teens spark 3 visits by by 999 crews

North Inch boozers are found unconscious

Parents have been urged to keep tabs on teens after ambulances were sent to a Perth park three times in one day to deal with drunk youths.

Paramedics and police were called to the North Inch to deal with teens found unconscious and having vomited or urinated on themselves.

Ten young people were taken to Perth Police Station on Saturday, April 17 due to anti-social behaviour.

It comes after similar incidents over the Easter weekend.

A spokesperson for Tayside Police Division said: “On the Saturday alone, 10 young people were taken to Perth Police Office due to their intoxication levels, committing anti social behaviour offences, or pestering people to purchase alcohol on their behalf.

“Three times on Saturday (April 17) ambulances were required at the North Inch to deal with intoxicated youths who had been found unconscious having vomited or urinated on themselves.

“Not only were these incidents unpleasant and completely avoidable, they tied up the time of police officers who could have been needed to deal with incidents elsewhere.

“Again, not everyone our officers spoke to were poorly-behaved (the majority, in fact, were fine), and we would pass on our thanks to those who were adhering to the current guidelines, and to the members of the public who reported antisocial behaviour to officers and community wardens.”

Police say they will continue to crack down on the behaviour and have urged people not to purchase booze for teenagers as well as calling on parents to be mindful.

They added: “We will again visit off-licences to inform them of their responsibilities, and we would also like to remind members of the public, if you’re approached by someone under the age of 18 who asks you to purchase alcohol for them, do not agree to do so as you will be committing an offence.”

They also said that to tackle the issue they will be patrolling parks and beauty spots.

The statement continued: “Our officers will also again be patrolling at beauty spots and public parks over the weekend to ensure the safety of the public, and to provide advice around the coronavirus regulations. Please be respectful of others in the area in terms of social distancing, anti-social behaviour and littering.

“We continue to work closely with partners and Perth & Kinross Council to make sure young people are as safe as possible, but we still need support from parents and carers.

“Please be mindful about where your children are and who they are with, and educate them in relation to alcohol and risks involved.

“Make sure you can contact them if needed.”
