Villagers get wrong candidate’s leaflet

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

Several Errol households may have been left scratching their heads after receiving an election leaflet for a Holyrood candidate not standing in their constituency.

The Carse of Gowrie village is in the Perthshire North constituency, where John Swinney is standing for the SNP.

But a blunder led to leaflets for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire candidate Jim Fairlie being delivered in

Errol instead.

Mr Fairlie said the mistake was made by Royal Mail.

The Perthshire farmer is standing for the Scottish Parliament seat currently held by the SNP’s Roseanna Cunningham - who is retiring.

Mr Fairlie immediately highlighted the issue on Twitter and apologised for any confusion caused.

The Perthshire South and Kinross-shire candidate tweeted: “We have been made aware that several households in Errol have received these election leaflets in error.

“This was an error by Royal Mail, nevertheless I’d personally like to apologise for any confusion and to remind folk that in fact John Swinney is your candidate.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said:“We are looking into a report of a mis-delivery of an item of election material in Errol.

“Should we identify an issue, we will look to put things right as soon as we are able.”

There are five Holyrood candidates in

Perthshire North: Peter Barrett (Liberal Democrats), Murdo Fraser (Conservative and Unionist Party), Don Marshall (Scottish Family Party), Ryan Smart (Labour) and John Swinney (SNP).

There are four candidates for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire: Julia Brown (Liberal Democrats), Jim Fairlie (SNP), Janine Rennie (Labour Party) and Liz Smith (Conservative).
