Touching tributes have been paid to a beloved Perthshire dad who died suddenly at the weekend.

Popular Andy Nixon of St Madoes tragically passed away while out on a cycle path in Angus on Sunday, May 2.

Police officers attended the route between Station Road, Barry and Monifieth just after 8am when he became unwell, but Andy sadly died at the scene.

The kind-hearted 39-year-old had been bringing joy to his local village over the past few weeks by donning fancy dress costumes - including a giraffe, a panda and Iron Man and getting out running for Prostate Cancer UK’s Run the Month challenge.

Andy was aiming to complete 50 miles through April and had raised over £1680 – smashing his £250 target.

But now heartbroken friends took to social media to pay tribute to Andy, who is survived by wife Sarah and daughter Chloe.

Andy’s devastated best friend described him as a “total gentleman”.

In a post he wrote: “Absolutely heartbroken and devastated with news we heard yesterday of our best mate Andy Nixon.

“[A] total gentleman who would always be at the party and always be there for us.

“Love you mate. Words can’t describe right now.”

Another friend and neighbour said: “Woke to the tragic news of the passing of a friend and neighbour.

“An amazing guy who always had a cheery smile and a big hello when you passed.

“His latest charity run involved running around our village in fancy dress and raised an amazing amount of money.
