SCOTTISH FAMILY PARTY - DON MARSHALL
Peter Barrett is the Scottish Liberal Democrats candidate for Perthshire North.
Peter is a leading councillor, a hard-working and effective campaigner with a strong record of action.
He has strong roots in the Fair City, is married with two grown-up sons and a member of St Matthew’s Church on Tay Street.
Peter is a passionate local champion for the homeless with a national reputation. He led the delivery of rapid rehousing and innovative homelessness prevention measures.
Peter believes actions speak volumes: at the start of lockdown tackling hunger and food poverty were Peter’s top priorities.
He took over a network of nine community larders serving Muirton and North Muirton, building a sustainable network comprising community groups and volunteers which still provides over a ton of food support per month.
When P&K Foodbank needed volunteers Peter stepped in for six months and he continues to support two community food-share initiatives providing food support and protecting the environment by reducing food-waste.
Peter said:“Scottish Liberal Democrats are committed to putting recovery first: an education bounce-back; more classroom assistants and real action to improve education; a jobs guarantee for young people; support for our NHS to deal with the backlog of procedures and tests with greater treatment and diagnosis in GP surgeries, tackling climate change with a green recovery, creating jobs through investment in off-shore wind, hydrogen technology and energy conservation, more mental health specialists in communities and doubling the number of counsellors we train.
“It’s jobs, mental health, education and the environment.”
I am the Scottish Family Party’s deputy party chairman and standing for election in the North Perthshire constituency and the lead candidate on the Mid Scotland and Fife Regional List.
I aim to make a difference by speaking up for those that have no voice, by challenging the status quo and raising topics and subjects that these weak-willed party puppets dare not discuss.
I stand against all forms of racism and hatred and instead I promote love and tolerance.
I am for equality and equity for all and against all forms of abuse and violence.
I want to encourage and support families and marriage.
I will seek to improve education to give our children the best start in life and oppose age-inappropriate sex education content.
On independence I respect the decision of the 2014 Referendum but would support a further referendum if there was overwhelming support for one from the people of Scotland.
I also stand for religious freedom, the freedom to practice religion and for freedom of speech.
As a practicing Christian I hold strong views and morals but believe that we should love our neighbours and our enemies no matter what.
I live just outside Perth with my wife and daughter and run my own business as a life and business coach with real life experience rather than a career politician.
